Getting Around

Car Rentals:
Renting a car is the most comfortable way of seeing Savaii at your leisure and own pace. Simply register your full license from country of origin with the Ministry of Transport in Salelologa at a cost of $12.00, and you will receive a temporary license to get around.

The following are some of the rentals on island:

  • PK Rentals Tel# 51025
  • Savaii Car Rental Tel# 51392

Taxis:
Hotel reception will gladly arrange a taxi for you; and a ten minute notice is required. Simply let the staff know when and where you would like to go.

Taxis are also readily available from Salelologa Market should you require more comfortable transportation around town.

Taxis are approximately SAT$20-00 to SAT$25.00 one way from our resort to Salelologa Township. Fares also depend on the distance of your destination. Taxi operators do not have a billing system and fares are calculated using pre-determined rates from the Ministry of Transport.

Please note: be sure to remember the taxi's license plate in case valuables are forgotten in the vehicle.

Buses:
Bus service runs daily from 7 a.m. - 5.30 p.m. from the resort to the market. Feedback from our guests is extremely favorable and they often say that it is an enjoyable adventure, as they get to mingle with the lively locals, enjoy music and soak up the informality of it all!

If you are in a hurry to keep a schedule, we recommend taking a taxi, but keep in mind that buses are more economical-and better at agreeing with your travel budget.

Buses are approximately SAT$1.40 one way from our resort to Salelologa Township.

From the resort:

  • Saleaula Lava Fields SAT$ 3.50
  • Swimming Turtles SAT$ 3.80
  • Le La Goto Beach Resort SAT$ 4.00
  • Tanu Beach Fales SAT$ 4.50

Please verify schedules with the bus drivers before leaving Salelologa. Bus schedules are independently set by the bus operators.

Ferry:
This is the only form of domestic transfer between the two main islands of Upolu and Savaii. As all domestic flights from Maota Airport are grounded indefinitely. Ferries are also able to transfer vehicles.

Tickets are sold at the wharf at a cost of SAT$9.00/adult, SAT$7.00/child. Ferries run consistently on: Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 6 a.m., 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Tuesday: 6 a.m., 8 a.m., 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. This is solely dependent on the Samoa Shipping Corporation schedule as one of the ferries is bound for Tokelau Island, causing a shortage of ferries to run between the two main islands. It's best to book ahead.

The cost for transferring your vehicle between islands depends on the size of your vehicle. To secure your place (i.e. reservation) on the ferry, it is recommended to book in advance.

Freight costs as follows:

  • Hyundai Tucson SAT$65 one way
  • Hyundai Getz SAT$50 one way
  • Kia van 15 seater SAT$70 one way
